Molly Joseph DJ Bio
In 2010, an impassioned Molly Joseph graduated from The University of Michigan and began doing everything in her power to learn the art of playing records. From taking music production and Serato classes, to observing other deejays, to studying music composition and pulling all-nighters practicing on her coveted turntables, Molly was completely enamored with music and djing.
Growing up in the New York suburbs, Molly was raised on a steady diet of rock, Motown, and classical music by her parents. At school, however, hip hop reigned supreme, “We would sit in our cars during our free periods blasting Biggie, but then I’d go home and my Mom would be listening to Crosby Stills and Nash. It was a well-rounded education.” Molly’s eclectic early musical environment fostered her appreciation of all musical genres and would later give birth to her versatile approach to open-format deejaying.
Within one year of being in the dj scene, Molly was playing gigs at New York City’s hottest nightclubs (The Box, Provocateur, Pink Elephant, Avenue, the Boom Boom Room at The Standard Hotel, Catch), and booking private events for high profile clients ranging from BlackBook and New York Magazines to Mercedes Benz and J. Crew. When Molly’s focus shifted to Electro House music, she was given the opportunity to travel the world, dropping high energy sets at festivals and opening for artists like The Chainsmokers and Tiesto.
Since relocating to LA to pursue her journalism career, Molly has held residencies at venues all over the city (SkyBar, Bootsy Bellows, ShoreBar), and taught as a DJ Instructor at Dubspot, Hollywood’s premiere electronic music school.
About her career, Molly says, “I tell a story with my music. There is nothing that makes me feel higher than dropping a record someone hasn’t heard in years and seeing the rush of remembering and excitement wash over them. Then I’ll switch into the pop song they’re loving in the moment. My intention is to always be playing with the hearts of my crowd and taking them on a rhythmic journey of pleasure and emotion.”
